Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a tractor-trailer operator in Dubuque, IA. The role involves driving long hauls and performing non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work.

You will conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain logs, and follow Dispatch instructions to manage delays, equipment problems, and safety compliance. Qualified candidates must hold a Class A CDL or CLP, meet MVR standards, and comply with DOT FMC 391 regulations.

Qualifications

• Must have a Class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers with average lift force of ~100 lbs several times a day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions regarding events like delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• Perform city driver or freight handler duties when needed.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
