Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc is seeking a driver trained in tractor-trailer operation to join our Iowa team. The role focuses on education and driving skills development, with non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work.

You will operate various trucks, perform pre-/post-trip inspections, secure freight, assist with loading, and coordinate with Dispatch for pickups and deliveries. A valid Class A CDL and DOT compliance are required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or CLP before entering job classification (DOT/FMCSA requirements).
• MVR acceptable based on hiring standards.
• DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up/break down trailers requiring ~100 lbs lift force.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 lbs several times a week.
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, inter-trip inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with forklift, pallet jack, hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation/reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related docs.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding requirements.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, equipment issues, etc.
