Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a Class A CDL driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, with forklift and dock duties. The role emphasizes safety inspections, documentation, and customer service.

Key tasks include hooking/unhooking trailers, securing freight, and performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections. You will work with Dispatch on delays, equipment issues, and pickups, while complying with DOT regulations and company procedures.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT 391 regulatory requirements.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• Drive day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather.
• Exposure to noise and vibration.
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes.
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Move freight with forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays and equipment issues.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Determine pick-up or delivery needs with customers.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Where necessary, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires.
• Follow laws and company policies; perform other duties.
