Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a dock-to-truck associate to operate tractor-trailer combinations, perform safety inspections, and handle freight with forklifts and pallet jacks. You will secure cargo, complete paperwork, and coordinate with Dispatch and customers for pickups and deliveries.

Required: Class A CDL or CLP, clean MVR, and DOT compliance. Lifting up to 100 lb multiple times daily; teamwork and independent work are both essential. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down trailers that require lift up to 100 pounds several times a day.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, issues, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Identify additional business leads for sales.
