Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a CDL driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations between service centers, including dock duties. Responsibilities include pre-trip and post-trip inspections, log maintenance, documentation, and following Dispatch instructions.

Qualifications include a Class A CDL or CLP, valid MVR, and DOT regulatory compliance. Hazmat awareness, customer service, and the ability to lift heavy loads or operate forklifts are required; some schedules may require overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training; work independently or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor or trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions on delays, arrivals, or equipment problems.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding requirements as needed.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• When needed, perform city driver or freight handler duties.
• Use forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck for freight handling.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Follow all laws, regulations, and company policies.
