Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking personnel for tractor-trailer operation and dock duties, including forklift use and freight handling. This role involves connecting trailers, performing safety inspections, and supporting pickups and deliveries across shifts.

The position requires a valid Class A CDL or CLP, MVR checks, and DOT compliance. Candidates should be able to lift up to 100 lbs, work independently or with a team, and provide reliable customer service on the dock.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck)
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain documentation
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and placarding requirements
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, equipment issues
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Inform customers of pick-up or delivery needs and seek additional business
