Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a qualified driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles or straight trucks, and perform related dock duties. You will conduct safety inspections, secure freight, handle pallets and straps, and assist with documentation and customer service.

The role requires a CDL or CLP, clean MVR, and ability to lift up to 100 pounds. This is a physically demanding, on-site position with opportunities to interact with dispatch and customers.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 pounds several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Where necessary, perform duties of a road driver or freight handler.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
