Job summary

FedEx Freight seeks a professional driver to operate tractor-trailer units, including doubles/straight trucks, and to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections. You will manage freight handling with forklifts and hand trucks, secure loads, and complete documentation.

Responsibilities include communicating with Dispatch, delivering customer service, and identifying additional business opportunities. Hours vary by operation. CDL required and compliance with DOT regulations are essential.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP).
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR part 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down trailers requiring lifting.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding requirements.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment issues.
• Provide internal and external customer service; determine pickup/delivery needs.
• Refer leads to sales for potential opportunities.
• Occasionally perform road driver or freight handler tasks.
• Chain vehicle tires; adhere to laws and company policies.
• Hours may vary due to operational needs.
