Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. seeks a CDL driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and perform essential dock and freight-handling duties. Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, hitching trailers, and securing loads while maintaining safety and DOT compliance.

The role requires lifting up to 100 pounds, working with various equipment, and communicating effectively with Dispatch and customers. The position includes on-site work with varying hours depending on operations.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or commercial learner permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of ~100 pounds, several times a day.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• WORKING CONDITIONS: Drive day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather.
• Exposure to noise and vibration.
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes.
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations.
• Hours may vary due to operational need.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding for hazmat shipments.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or equipment issues.
• Deliver internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pickup/delivery needs.
• Sollicit additional business and leads for sales opportunities.
• Perform road driver or freight handler duties if required.
• Chain vehicle tires; comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
