Job summary

FedEx Freight in Texas seeks a CDL-A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers. You will perform pre-trip inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and manage freight with forklifts and pallet jacks while ensuring safety and customer service.

The role supports sales by identifying additional business opportunities. Requirements include a Class A CDL with hazmat and tank endorsements, knowledge of DOT regulations, and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements.
• One year of experience within the most recent three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Long combination vehicle (LCV) qualifications for certain states where applicable.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/triples or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect payments for freight charges and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or issues.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Ask for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• May be required to chain vehicle tires.
• May perform road driver or dock duties as needed.
• Comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
