Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a CDL A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers, supporting the selling process. You will operate tractor-trailer combos, perform pre-trip inspections, and handle freight with appropriate equipment.

Responsibilities include verifying documents, complying with hazmat rules, collecting payments when required, following dispatch instructions, and communicating with customers to determine needs and generate additional business.

Qualifications

• CDL A with double/triple, hazmat & tank endorsements; automatic transmission allowed.
• At least 1 year of experience in the last 3 years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have an acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT FMC 391 requirements.
• LCV states require qualification in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD and UT.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to work independently or as a team

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations and/or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and convertor dollies.
• Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets and straps.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect payments for freight charges when required and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or equipment issues.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• May perform chaining of vehicle tires or duties of road driver/dock employee as needed.
• Comply with all laws and company policies; perform other duties as required
