Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a CDL driver in Madison, AL to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers while supporting the sales process. The role requires operating tractors/trailers, performing pre-trip inspections, handling freight, and ensuring safety and accuracy in documentation.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (Automatic transmission restriction allowed).
• Must have 1 year of experience within the last 3 years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT FMC regulations under 49 CFR 391.
• LCV qualifications apply in listed states (AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT).
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies from tractor and/or trailer.
• Handle freight using motorized/manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, rope, etc.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays, arrivals, or problems.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Provide strong internal/external customer service; generate leads for sales.
