Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Care Access Specialist to be the first point of contact for patients, staff, and providers. You will assist with patient registration, schedule outpatient appointments, enter patient information, and manage check-in/out processes onsite.

In this role you will verify insurance and demographics, coordinate communication between clinics, and respond to patient messages. A strong customer service focus and teamwork are essential to succeed at UNC Health.

Qualifications

• Three years of customer service and/or clerical experience required.
• High school diploma or GED required; higher level degree may satisfy.
• Experience with Epic is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provides excellent customer service in a busy call center or outpatient clinic environment.
• Verifies key patient information (insurance, demographics) to ensure accuracy for patient safety, billing and processing.
• Schedules all patient appointments; reschedules cancellations when possible; communicates changes to providers.
• Manages referrals for multiple clinics; follows referral policies.
• Answers phones, directs calls, and delivers messages in Epic.
• Mentions to precept new coworkers; responds to patient messages in the two-way texting platform.
• Participates in departmental QA and minimizes errors in registration processes.
• Performs other administrative duties as needed.
