Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Care Access Specialist to serve as the information center for patients, staff, and physicians. The role includes scheduling outpatient appointments, entering patient data, check-in/out, and coordinating communication across units.

Responsibilities include patient information verification, scheduling, handling referrals, and message routing in Epic. The position is on-site in Chapel Hill with a typical Day Job schedule and 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; higher degree may satisfy.
• Three (3) years of customer service and/or clerical experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provides excellent customer service in a busy call center or outpatient clinic setting.
• Verifies key patient information (insurance, demographics) for accuracy.
• Schedules patient appointments and communicates cancellations to providers.
• Manages referrals for multiple clinics and follows referral policies.
• Answers calls, directs callers, and records messages in Epic.
• Supports teammates and adapts to improve processes.
• Precepts new staff and handles patient messages via texting platform.
• Performs other administrative tasks as needed.
