Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking an experienced PA, Surgical Assistant, or House Physician with a background in Cardiothoracic Surgery. The role emphasizes strong operating room skills, sterile technique, and collaboration with surgeons and the surgical team to uphold patient safety and high-quality care.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years in a cardiothoracic setting, current licensure, and BCLS certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of PA/SA/House Physician experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists with positioning and transferring of patients pre and post-operatively using proper body mechanics.
• Maintains licensure and current CPR/BCLS certification.
• Prepares and drapes patients; assists with catheter lines and needles.
• Demonstrates anatomy and physiology knowledge related to procedures and positioning.
• Handles sharps safely and uses PPE in the sterile field.
• Maintains a sterile field until dressing is applied and patient is out of OR.
• Assists surgeon with tissue exposure, retraction, and hemostasis.
• Uses instruments to control bleeding and applies sponges/pressure as needed.
• Demonstrates knot tying and suturing/staple techniques.
• Notifies circulating staff of aseptic breaches and corrects as needed.
• Maintains time management to meet department needs.
• Supports performance improvement activities and data collection.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Allopathic US Medical School graduate
