Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from start of externship.
• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with NC DHHS.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports significant changes to a nurse.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provides direct and indirect patient care including vital signs, measurements, specimen collection, basic tasks.
• Reinforces teaching and documents patient understanding.
• Assists providers with routine exams and procedures and supports emergency equipment needs.
• In psychiatric settings, aids in orientation, behavior modification plans, and safety measures.
