Job summary

Vassar College Store is seeking an Assistant Director to support the Director in overseeing store operations, including sales floor activities, purchasing, pricing, merchandising, inventory control and accounting functions.

The role also involves training and supervising student staff, developing marketing programs, managing textbook adoptions and buyback, and ensuring effective campus-wide communication and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Supervisory or management experience in a retail setting.
• Understanding of retail operations, cash handling and customer relations.
• Familiarity with merchandising, inventory control and pricing processes.
• Excellent customer service and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work varied hours including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Oversee opening and closing procedures.
• Direct staff and adjust tasks based on customer needs.
• Design merchandising setups and inform purchasing decisions.
• Support budget goals with cost-saving and revenue ideas.
• Hire, train, and schedule student employees.
• Manage textbook cycle from adoptions to buyback for student availability.
• Foster communications across campus with faculty, students and administration.
• Assist with marketing programs to boost store sales.
• Cover Store operations in Director's absence.
• Arrange campus pop-up events and manage social media communication.
