Job summary

The City of Maypearl is seeking a Building Official to lead the Planning & Development Services Division, supervise staff, and serve as the Floodplain Manager. You will administer construction codes, coordinate development reviews, manage division personnel and budgets, and ensure timely enforcement of city ordinances.

Responsibilities include overseeing building inspections, permitting, code compliance, review of plans, and guiding development from inquiry through approval.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; Class C Texas Driver's License.
• Minimum 3 years as Building Inspector/Official or 5 years in trades/inspection.
• 2+ years of management, supervisory and budget experience.
• Plumbing/Electrical licensure preferred or ability to obtain within stated timelines.
• Must pass medical exam, drug test, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Planning & Development Services Division, including building inspections, permitting, code compliance, and city planning.
• Hire, train, mentor staff; conduct evaluations; address performance concerns.
• Supervise division staff; assign work; coordinate office and field activities.
• Set goals, service standards, and monitor permit times and review progress.
• Coordinate development projects from inquiry through approval and completion.
• Oversee development review activities, plats, site plans, and land-use requirements.
• Supervise permit intake, completeness reviews, fee processing, inspection scheduling, records management, and customer assistance.
• Review permit applications and construction plans for code compliance.
• Oversee Code Compliance activities, enforcement, and case documentation.
• Develop and revise building-related ordinances, policies, and fees.
• Conduct or supervise inspections of new construction, renovations, and other work for compliance.
