Job summary

The City of Maypearl is seeking an entry-level planner/permit technician to support the Building Department. Responsibilities include processing permits, answering questions, and assisting with code interpretations for developers, citizens, and contractors.

You will gain experience and certifications in municipal government while working under the Building Official and supporting other city departments as needed. Proficiency in MS Office and a willingness to learn are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Degree (Diploma)
• 1 year of building permit experience preferred
• 1 year experience in a municipality preferred
• 1 year experience with MGO or equivalent permitting software preferred
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

• Input, track and process permits and maintain documentation for permits and certificates of occupancy
• Answer questions and provide guidance on permits, submittal requirements, code interpretations, and procedures to citizens, developers, contractors, and builders
• Research and apply applicable standards within the International Codes to assist customers with development questions
• Provide general technical support to the building official, fire department, police department, and third-party staff
• Assist the building official in preparing for Zoning Board, Planning and Zoning, and city council meetings
• Fulfill other job functions as assigned
