Job summary

The City of Maypearl is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to conduct on-site inspections and enforce local codes related to property maintenance, zoning and signs. You will prepare and manage inspection records, and collaborate with engineers, builders and contractors to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities include investigative work on unsafe structures, coordination with prosecutors, testimony at hearings, and clear communication of code requirements to property owners and the public.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma plus one year of experience in code enforcement or equivalent training.
• Knowledge of city ordinances, zoning laws and property maintenance codes.
• Ability to read maps, surveys and understand legal references.

Responsibilities

• Makes on-site inspections to ensure properties comply with codes including maintenance, zoning and sign ordinances.
• Prepares and manages records concerning inspections, licenses, permits and certificates.
• Consults with engineers, architects, builders and contractors on compliance.
• Coordinates reviews and inspections with other city departments as needed.
• Maintains knowledge of statutes and ordinances; collaborates with contractors and the public.
• Investigates complaints of unsafe or unsanitary structures and enforces codes.
• Patrols streets for unauthorized activities and improper land use.
• Explains code requirements to owners, tenants and the public.
• Manages cases and coordinates with prosecutors for investigations and prosecutions.
• Testifies at hearings and trials; provides information on violations.
• Documents evidence in narrative, photo and video form.
• Answers questions regarding zoning, sign and property maintenance ordinance compliance.
• Provides customer service to departments and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
