CBP Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) are federal law enforcement officers protecting the United States by stopping illegal entry and enforcing immigration and customs laws. Positions start at GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 with potential to move to GS-12, and include robust federal benefits and retirement plans.

New BPAs may receive recruitment incentives up to $20,000 and additional incentives up to $30,000 over three years.

Formación

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
• Age restrictions apply per statute.
• Formal training: six months at the Border Patrol Academy after hire.

Responsabilidades

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-ops.
• Interpreting tracks, marks and evidence of illegal entry and contraband.
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling boundaries and waterways using various government assets to fulfill the USBP mission.
