Job summary

Customs and Border Protection is seeking Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) to join a large federal law enforcement workforce. The role involves screening people near borders, enforcing immigration and customs laws, and maintaining public safety while facilitating lawful travel and trade.

Salary ranges vary by grade (GL-5/7/9 or GS-11) with eligible benefits and strong incentives. Choose prioritized locations for additional recruitment incentives, with potential retention incentives over three years.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations; to learn regulations, methods, and techniques; and to gather information through questioning and examination of documents.
• A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Combination of general work experience AND successfully completed college education as described by your resume and transcripts.
• Note: If you have previous or current law enforcement or military experience you may qualify at higher grade levels.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night operations
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks and patrols
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets
