Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) across multiple grades. You will protect the United States by detecting and interdicting illegal entry, while enforcing immigration and customs laws.

Training includes academy preparation and ongoing law enforcement duties. Eligible for recruitment and retention incentives and federal benefits. Salary scales vary by grade (GL-5 to GS-11) and location, with competitive base pay and generous leave.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
• Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
• Formal training: Border Patrol Academy after hire (approx. six months).
• Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent required or substitution with experience/education combination.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of immigration violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers near borders.
• Interpreting tracks and evidence of illegal entry.
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling international boundary and coastal waterways using various assets.
