Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) at multiple grades. The role offers competitive base pay at GL-5/7/9 or GS-11 with strong federal benefits, leave, and a Thrift Savings Plan.

New BPA hires may receive a recruitment incentive up to $20,000, with additional retention incentives up to $30,000, plus an extra $10,000 for prioritized duty locations. Training at the Border Patrol Academy is provided.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience that demonstrates the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations.
• A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
• Combination of general work experience AND college education; will be evaluated via resume and transcripts.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration or customs laws and inspect documents for citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-vision equipment.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband; perform checks of farms, buildings, traffic, and transportation.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets to fulfill CBP mission.
