Job summary

Troutman Pepper Locke LLP seeks a Billing Manager to lead the firm’s Billing team, ensuring accurate, timely invoices aligned with client guidelines. You will supervise workflow, analyze billing data, and drive process improvements in a fast-paced environment.

You will collaborate with attorneys and Legal Support to design client-driven invoicing, respond to billing inquiries with top-tier service, and oversee monthly close while mentoring the team in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of five (5) years' experience managing a large team in a high-volume environment.
• Experience in a law firm preferred.
• Experience with eBilling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic updates about billing to team leadership.
• Review and prepare daily, weekly, or monthly reports as required.
• Review and monitor Billing transactions and activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and conformance to company policies.
• Develop strategies and tactics to optimize workflow.
• Work with attorneys and Legal Support to design and develop invoicing to meet client needs and guidelines.
• Address and respond to customer inquiries about billing, providing a high level of customer service.
• Act as a liaison and escalation point between the Legal team, Billing team, and other Troutman teams.
• Act as departmental representative at various meetings.
• Monitor timekeeping policies and procedures to ensure client guidelines are followed.
• Oversee the Billing process and ensures successful monthly close cycle.
• Manage, develop, and advocate for the Billing team; identify areas of opportunity for individual team member’s development and work with leadership and the team trainer to train and develop team members.
• Hold regular one-on-one and departmental meetings with team members; conduct mentoring/development discussions with directs reports.
• Maintain team expectations to ensure that they are understood by each team member and monitor them for compliance; evaluate direct reports performance; address personnel issues as needed and in a timely matter.
• Utilize technology resources to maximize efficiency while maintaining the highest level of professionalism.
• Exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with both attorneys and staff.
