Job summary

Troutman Pepper Locke LLP seeks an experienced Billing Operations Leader to manage a large, fast-paced billing team in a law firm environment. You will oversee the entire billing cycle, implement process improvements, and coordinate with attorneys and support staff to ensure client-focused invoicing.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of people management in high-volume settings, strong knowledge of billing applications (Aderant or similar), and excellent communication and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of training, skills, and experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years' experience managing a large team in a high-volume environment, with a track record of improved performance.
• Experience in a law firm preferred.
• Experience with eBilling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic updates about billing to team leadership.
• Review and/or prepare daily, weekly, or monthly reports as required.
• Review and monitor billing transactions and activities to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to policies.
• Develop strategies and tactics to optimize workflow.
• Collaborate with attorneys and Legal Support to design and develop invoicing to meet client needs and guidelines.
• Respond to customer inquiries about billing with high-quality service.
• Serve as liaison between Legal, Billing, and Troutman teams.
• Lead departmental meetings and provide mentoring for team members.
• Monitor timekeeping policies to ensure client guidelines are followed.
• Oversee the Billing process and monthly close cycle.
• Develop, train, and advocate for the Billing team; identify opportunities for development.
• Conduct regular one-on-one and departmental meetings; manage performance.
• Maintain team expectations and ensure compliance; address personnel issues as needed.
• Leverage technology to maximize efficiency while maintaining professionalism.
• Exercise judgment in maintaining relationships with attorneys and staff.
