Job summary

PHC seeks a Patient Access Representative I at University Medical Clinic in Des Moines to ensure a positive, seamless front-desk experience. You will greet patients, handle registrations, verify insurance, schedule visits, and guide patients to support resources.

The role supports revenue cycle and clinic workflows, with a focus on patient satisfaction and efficient operations. Bilingual Spanish/English is required; 40 hours weekly, Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM.

Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish/English communication skills, written and verbal.
• Minimum 1 year in healthcare, human services or social services; or 2 years in customer service.
• Excellent customer service skills and commitment to service excellence.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Good problem-solving skills with critical thinking.
• Takes initiative and demonstrates dependability.

Responsibilities

• Greet visitors and provide prompt, friendly service to meet needs.
• Accurately document messages and relay to the appropriate person.
• Schedule patient appointments and verify information.
• Complete accurate registration paying attention to phone, address, income, homelessness, and guarantor.
• Load insurance into registration and verify eligibility.
• Maintain knowledge of enrollment and verification processes for PHC.
• Perform insurance verification prior to visits and assist with sliding fee program.
• Refer patients to Patient Service Specialists for Medicaid or Marketplace options.
• Process patient payments and manage cash box.
• Scan and index documents into electronic health records.
• Monitor schedules and recall patients to optimize appointments.
• Communicate delays to patients and offer resources (telehealth, referrals).
• Collaborate with care team and contribute to quality initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
