Job summary

Primary Health Care Inc. seeks a Patient Access Representative I to join the West Side Clinic in Des Moines. You will greet patients, complete registrations, assist with financial screenings, schedule appointments, and help patients access support resources.

You will contribute to efficient front desk operations, support revenue cycle processes, and collaborate with the care team to improve patient satisfaction. Spanish language skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish/English written and verbal.
• Minimum of 1 year in a healthcare, human services or social services environment; or 2 years in a customer service role.
• Excellent customer service skills and commitment to service excellence.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Good problem-solving skills with ability to apply critical thinking.

Responsibilities

• Greets visitors and provides prompt, friendly service to those entering the building.
• Maintains reception area and waiting room; manages visitor log and badges.
• Documents messages accurately and relays to the appropriate staff.
• Schedules patient appointments for medical and/or dental clinics.
• Performs registration with attention to phone, address, income, homeless status, and guarantor.
• Loads insurance in registration; uses Real Time Eligibility to verify coverage.
• Supports revenue cycle processes and enrollment/verification workflows.
• Verifies insurance before visits and assists with sliding fee program applications.
• Assists patients with payment collection and cash handling per protocol.
• Scans and indexes patient documents into EHR.
• Monitors schedules and recalls; communicates delays and offers options (telehealth, referrals).
• Collaborates with care team to improve patient satisfaction and operational performance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
