Job summary

PHC is seeking a Patient Access Representative I to deliver a friendly, efficient front desk experience at West Side Clinic in Des Moines. You will greet patients, complete registration, assist with financial screening, schedule appointments, and help patients access support resources.

This 40-hour/week role, Monday–Friday 8 AM–5 PM, may require shifts at other PHC clinics. Bilingual Spanish/English is required; mileage reimbursement and an out‑of‑city bonus may apply.

Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish/English communication, written and verbal.
• 1 year in healthcare, human services, or 2 years in customer service.
• Excellent customer service and commitment to service excellence.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Initiative, dependability and teamwork.
• Strong interpersonal skills and empathy.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic math and ability to make change.
• Proficient with basic computer tasks and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Greet visitors with prompt, friendly service and manage reception.
• Schedule appointments and ensure accurate registration.
• Load insurance details and verify eligibility in real time.
• Support revenue cycle processes and patient access resources.
• Collect payments and manage cash handling per protocol.
• Scan and index documents into electronic health records.
• Coordinate recalls and optimize scheduling to improve access.
• Collaborate with care teams to enhance patient satisfaction.
• Assist with sliding fee program applications and referrals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
