Job summary

VOA‑Greater New York is seeking a Benefits Specialist/Case Manager to support formerly homeless clients in Permanent Supportive Housing, coordinating with building staff to promote stability and well‑being.

Responsibilities include conducting benefits assessments, assisting SSI/SSD applications, budgeting coaching, and delivering workshops on benefits and money management to help clients achieve independence.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 60 college credits in Human Services, or HS diploma with 2 years experience helping low‑income clients access and maintain benefits.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication abilities.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct benefits assessments and provide individualized education, assistance, referrals and advocacy to help clients obtain and retain benefits.
• Document disability to support SSI/SSD applications and appeals with clients and providers.
• Provide money management and budgeting coaching; connect clients to guardianship or representative payee services as needed.
• Develop and deliver workshops on benefits, budgets and money management.
• Maintain service documentation including progress notes and incident reporting.
• Participate in internal and external case conferencing activities.
