Job summary

The Transportation Assistant role is based at the Temple campus within the Health Administration Service. The position handles scheduling and certifying payments for ambulance transport under the Beneficiary Travel program.

Responsibilities include using VetRide to manage SMT lifts, verifying eligibility, and maintaining secure access to VA systems while delivering courteous service to Veterans and coordinating with third-party vendors.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 in the organization.
• Education may substitute for the required experience with 4 years of college or higher in any field.
• Combination of education and experience with 60 semester hours (2 years) creditable.

Responsibilities

• Schedules all types of Special Mode Transportation (wheelchair van, BLS, ALS, Critical Care/Specialty care, Air Medevac).
• Uses VetRide to schedule SMT lifts and certifies invoices for payment.
• Determines travel eligibility and computes mileage and vouchers for transport.
• Maintains multiple computer software programs and uses two monitors for efficiency.
• Follows strict security measures when accessing VA computer systems and programs.
• Provides on-the-job training to new employees.
• Serves as backup for processing beneficiary travel reimbursements.
