Job summary

Atlanta Gas Light, a Southern Company Gas subsidiary, is seeking an entry-level General Technician Apprentice Below Ground in Atlanta, GA. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing gas mains and service lines, reading meters, and assisting with ERT programming and field operations.

The position is bargaining unit (IBEW Local 1997) with automatic progression per the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Basic knowledge and use of hand tools and equipment.
• Ability to pass basic skills and knowledge assessments.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance with distribution activities involved with installation, repair and maintenance of the distribution system.
• Operates basic equipment and tools.
• Traffic control and landscaping duties.
• Digging, shoring, repairing leaks, testing and wrapping pipes.
• Pressure recording devices and using various tools during crew activities.
• Keeps truck stocked with equipment and supplies.
• Completes customer/compliance orders timely and safely.
• Observes safety requirements and regulatory guidelines.
• Captures documentation in Mobile Data Terminal.
• Assists in connecting/disconnecting gas service.
• Investigates high bill complaints and meter readings.
