Job summary

Ascot Group is recruiting for an Assistant Vice President, Builder’s Risk to lead underwriting of construction projects and drive profitable growth within our national practice. This role focuses on expanding retail broker distribution while collaborating with Inland Marine and Marine teams.

The position can be based in multiple locations, with travel up to 30%. We emphasize technical underwriting excellence, client-centric service, and a team-oriented culture aligned with The Ascot Way.

Qualifications

• 8+ years underwriting Builder’s Risk, course-of-construction, or construction property insurance products.
• Strong technical knowledge of construction classes, methods, project delivery structures, soft costs, delay in startup, and installation floaters.
• Working familiarity with catastrophe modeling tools and CAT risk evaluation for construction projects; capacity to collaborate with underwriters, claims, and risk engineering.
• Proven marketing and negotiation skills with established construction broker relationships; strong communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
• Knowledge of facultative reinsurance placements.
• Highly collaborative; professional designations such as CRIS, AMIM, or CPCU preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 30% for broker meetings, insured visits, marketing initiatives, and industry events.
• Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites Builder’s Risk and course-of-construction business, including ground-up commercial and residential projects.
• Evaluate project risk quality, including schedule, contractor experience, site protections, and loss exposures; recommend terms and pricing.
• Develop and deepen relationships with construction-focused brokers and agents to grow retail distribution.
• Review engineering documents and protective safeguards to assess risk quality and initiate loss-prevention actions.
• Collaborate with claims, risk engineering, and actuarial to ensure policyholder success.
