Job summary

Ascot Group is seeking an Assistant Vice President for Builder’s Risk, based in one of several major U.S. markets including Houston. The role focuses on underwriting construction projects, growing retail broker distribution, and delivering profitable growth within our National Builder’s Risk Practice.

You will collaborate with closely with the Builder’s Risk Practice Leader and Inland Marine teams. Ideal candidates bring deep technical underwriting skills, established construction broker

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience underwriting Builder’s Risk, course-of-construction, or construction property insurance products.
• Strong knowledge of construction classes, project delivery structures, soft costs, delays, and installation floaters.
• Familiarity with CAT modeling tools and risk evaluation; ability to interact with customers and underwriters.
• Proven marketing and negotiation skills with established construction broker relationships; strong communication.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% for broker meetings, insured visits, marketing initiatives, and industry events.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites Builder’s Risk and course-of-construction projects, including ground-up and renovations, within our appetite.
• Evaluates project risk quality, schedule, contractor experience, protections, and pricing for profitability.
• Develops and maintains relationships with brokers and insureds to grow portfolio and distribution.
• Reviews engineering information and protective safeguards to assess risk and initiate loss prevention actions.
• Collaborates with claims, risk engineering, and actuarial to achieve policyholder success.
