Job summary

Gersh Autism in Hempstead, NY is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support teachers in delivering customized instruction to students aged 5-21 with autism spectrum needs. The role involves assisting with lessons, behavior strategies, and documenting progress.

Responsibilities include implementing IEPs/BIPs, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring a safe, engaging learning environment. Prior TA experience and ATAS or the ability to take the TA exam are required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Prior experience as a Teaching Assistant is required.
• Teaching Assistant Skills Test (ATAS) or ability to take the TA exam.
• Experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher using evidence-based methodologies (ABA, CPS) tailored to student needs.
• Create a positive, learning environment by displaying student work and projects.
• Maintain a safe classroom environment for students.
• Plan and execute lessons tailored to individual student needs and group activities.
• Modify materials to ensure effective learning outcomes.
• Keep accurate student records and compile annual reports as required.
• Implement and support IEPs and BIP for each student.
• Collaborate with speech, occupational therapists, psychologists, and staff.
• Promote student health, safety, and social interaction with peers.
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and school events.
