Job summary

Gersh Autism in New York seeks a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support teachers and work with students ages 5–21 within a K-12 setting across our network. You will assist in delivering academics and life skills, adapting materials, and monitoring progress as part of a collaborative team.

The role involves implementing educational plans, maintaining safe classroom environments, attending trainings and meetings, and communicating with supervisors about student development and daily activities.

Qualifications

• BS / BA Degree preferred.
• Teaching Assistant Skills Test (ATAS) preferred.
• Experience working with children on the autism spectrum preferred in a Teaching Assistant role.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in delivering academics and life skills.
• Create an authentic environment by displaying student work and projects.
• Maintain a consistent and safe environment for the students.
• Plan and execute daily lessons meeting individual and group needs.
• Modify materials to support student learning.
• Attend trainings, team meetings and school functions.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors about classroom dynamics and student development.
• Supervise daily attendance and bathroom/mealtime activities.
