Gersh Autism in Huntington, NY is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support teachers of students aged 5-21, including those with autism spectrum needs, in a year-round school program. You will assist with instruction, keep progress notes, and help implement IEPs and behavioral plans.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a Teaching Assistant is required.
• Experience with Autism Spectrum children preferred.
• ATAS or ability to take TA exam.
• Experience administering an EPI pen or seizure meds is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Support the teacher with ABA, Collaborative Problem Solving, and other strategies that prioritize the student’s needs.
• Create a positive learning environment by displaying student work and projects.
• Maintain a safe classroom environment for students.
• Plan and execute lessons tailored to individual student needs and appropriate group lessons.
• Modify materials to ensure effective student learning.
• Keep accurate student records and write annual reports as required.
• Implement IEPs and BIP for each student.
• Collaborate with speech, occupational therapists, psychologists and others.
• Promote student health, safety and social interaction with peers.
• Attend required training, team meetings, and school events.
• Communicate with supervisors about classroom dynamics and progress.
• Complete attendance and supervise during meals and hygiene tasks.
• Assist with cleaning and maintaining classroom spaces.
