Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in West Hempstead, NY seeks a Teaching Assistant to support teachers in delivering individualized instruction and life skills, tailored to students with autism spectrum needs. You’ll collaborate with therapists and staff, assist with lesson planning, and help implement IEPs and BIPs while maintaining a safe, supportive classroom.

Location is West Hempstead, with a Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM (occasional 4 PM once weekly).

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Prior experience as a Teaching Assistant is required.
• TA Skills Test (ATAS) must be completed or able to take the TA exam.

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher in utilizing methodologies such as Applied Behavior Analysis or Collaborative Problem Solving.
• Create a positive, authentic learning environment by displaying student work and projects.
• Maintain a consistent and safe classroom environment for students.
• Assist in planning and executing lessons tailored to individual student needs and group lessons.
• Modify materials to ensure effective student learning and keep accurate student records.
