Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in New York City area seeks a Teaching Assistant to support a classroom of students with autism across ages 5-21. You will assist the teacher with lessons, adapt materials for individual needs, and help implement IEP and related supports.

The role involves creating a supportive, structured environment, documenting progress, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to promote academic, social and emotional growth.

Qualifications

• BS/BA degree preferred.
• Experience working with children on the autism spectrum preferred in a Teaching Assistant role.
• ATAS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher using approved methodologies to support students.
• Prepare classroom environment by displaying student work and projects.
• Support daily lessons and adapt materials for individual needs.
• Maintain accurate records and write annual student reports.
• Collaborate with speech, occupational, physical therapists and other professionals.
