Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy seeks a Teaching Assistant to support classroom teachers for students aged 5-21 with autism across Hempstead, NY. The role involves assisting with lessons, behavior strategies, and student progress within a collaborative team setting.

Qualifications include an Associate’s degree (preferred) and prior TA experience; ATAS testing is available. The schedule is Monday–Friday with potential after-hours team meetings and duties to ensure a safe, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• TA experience required
• Experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum preferred
• ATAS test or ability to take TA exam

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher using appropriate methodologies and strategies
• Create a positive learning environment by displaying student work
• Maintain a safe classroom environment for students
• Assist in planning and delivering lessons tailored to individual needs
• Modify materials to ensure effective student learning
• Keep accurate student records and write annual reports
• Implement and support IEPs and BIPs for each student
• Administer assessments to track progress and identify concerns
• Collaborate with speech, occupational, psychology professionals
• Participate in required training, meetings, and events
• Communicate with supervisors about classroom dynamics and student development
