Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking an Executive Director to lead daily operations, staff supervision, and fiscal stewardship across 26 locations in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and surrounding areas.

You will drive strategic program development, fundraise with staff and volunteers, manage budgets, and build partnerships with community organizations to strengthen the YMCA’s impact. This role requires onsite leadership and a proven nonprofit management background.

Qualifications

Strong business operations background with a proven track record for growth, annual giving and strong financial management.
Preferred Bachelor’s degree in child-related field or Sports Management/Recreation/Health Sciences or equivalent college credit.
Five+ years of successful management experience, preferably in a YMCA or nonprofit health and wellness setting.
Experience supervising full- and part-time employees and managing an annual budget over $1 million.
Ability to lead operations, budget development/monitoring, membership/program development, fundraising, marketing and PR, and board/volunteer development.
Ability to establish collaborations with community organizations.
YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred

Responsibilities

Direct leadership of day-to-day operations and staff development.
Develop and manage budgets with emphasis on childcare programs, events, rentals, sports, and aquatic programming.
Lead fundraising efforts and support staff/community giving.
Assist in board development and recruit members annually.
Oversee property management and facility upkeep.
Develop partnerships with home office leaders and product-line VPs.
Ensure safety, cleanliness, and function of facilities and equipment.
Represent the YMCA in the local community and manage program operations.
Lead staff recruitment, training, performance reviews, and supervision.
