Job summary

Innova Solutions is seeking an Assembly Technician in the Birmingham area to support quality-focused manufacturing. You will perform quality inspections, create procedures, manage SPC and control charts, and communicate issues with actionable corrective actions.

The successful candidate will also conduct supplier quality audits, develop inspection jigs, track scrap, and report data for management and customers.

Assembly Technician

Position type: Full Time/ Contract Duration: 12 Months Location: Bessemer, AL USA 35020

As an Assembly Technician, you will be:

  • Perform quality inspections at critical control points throughout the production process using appropriate measurement tools and techniques.
  • Create and maintain quality check procedures that define inspection criteria, measurement methods, and acceptance standards.
  • Manage control charts and statistical process control systems to monitor process capability and detect quality trends before defects occur.
  • Establish and maintain the onsite manufacturing feedback loop, communicating quality issues to production teams with actionable corrective actions.
  • Conduct incoming material and supplier quality audits to ensure raw materials and purchased components meet specifications.
  • Develop jigs and fixtures that enable accurate, repeatable quality inspections and reduce measurement variation.
  • Manage scrap tracking, root cause analysis, and corrective action systems to reduce waste and improve first-pass yield.
  • Document quality data and prepare reports for management review and customer quality submissions.
  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC) principles and experience maintaining control charts.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems.
  • Experience conducting supplier audits and managing corrective action processes.
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to detect subtle variations in dimensions, finishes, or material properties.
  • Problem-solving skills using structured methods such as 5-Why, or fishbone diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate quality issues clearly and diplomatically to production teams and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to innovation-focused projects, including development of new products, systems, workflows, or construction methodologies.
  • Proven ability to generate and implement innovative ideas, improving design efficiency, constructability, automation, or manufacturing integration.
  • Background working in new project development, pilot programs, or early-stage project environments where requirements evolve rapidly.
  • Comfortable operating in a startup-like or entrepreneurial environment, characterized by fast decision-making, limited precedent, and high ownership.
  • Strong collaborator with the ability to communicate and work with cross-functional disciplines, including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Innovation.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of fabrication processes including welding, cutting, roll forming, and assembly operations in metal manufacturing environments is preferred
  • Experience managing equipment installation projects.
  • Be able to operate and assemble components, including the use of screwdrivers, sawers, and skilsaws.
  • 1-3 years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or continuous improvement roles within manufacturing operations
  • Hands-on experience implementing Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma projects with documented results in waste reduction, cycle time improvement, or cost savings
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Background in quality assurance or quality control within manufacturing environment, preferably in metal fabrication or assembly.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement instruments
  • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD) for layout design and equipment specification is also a big advantage
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is highly advantageous
PAY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range*: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour *Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
