Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider) on diverse projects. You will capture data on site, verify it before departure, process with Artec Studio, and deliver meshes, reports, and scan-to-CAD outputs the client can use for decisions.

Responsibilities include planning scans, controlling drift, and producing CAD-ready files. Travel to regional hubs and sites is required, with safety and documentation emphasized.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners on real projects.
• Familiarity with Artec Studio or comparable software; able to clean, register, and export meshes.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings and reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment and work outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand clean meshes to modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
