Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to run handheld Artec scanners, process data in Artec Studio, and deliver scan-to-CAD files and reports for various structures and equipment. You will work on-site, ensure data quality, and coordinate access and safety with site teams while traveling to regional hubs as needed.

The role emphasizes practical scanning skills, CAD familiarity, and the ability to operate on active construction sites with travel requirements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld 3D scanner on real projects with examples.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape-measure backbones, and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
