Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider) on concrete, metal, and industrial sites. You will capture and verify data on site, process it in Artec Studio, and deliver scan-to-CAD files and reports to clients.

The role requires hands-on scanner experience, CAD familiarity, and the ability to work on active construction sites with travel to regional hubs as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating handheld 3D scanners on real projects.
• Knowledge of Artec Studio and scan processing basics.
• Reading engineering drawings and CAD familiarity.
• Ability to work on active construction sites and outdoors.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
• Willingness to travel to regional hubs.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD or metrology reporting is a plus.
• ACI/NICET/ICC certifications are a plus; sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, and export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD.
• Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, and anchor bolt reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
