Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on diverse sites, from rebar mats to corroded pipes, delivering meshes, point clouds, and scan-to-CAD data. You will process data in Artec Studio, verify accuracy on site, and coordinate access with site contacts.

You must be able to travel to regional hubs, work outdoors on active jobsites, and carry equipment while maintaining safety protocols. Prior certification and CAD-reading ability are a plus.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld scanner (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider; Creaform HandySCAN; FARO; or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable software; mesh cleanup, registration, export.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment and travel.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlap zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
