Job summary

City of Indianapolis and Marion County seeks a Program Coordinator to oversee facilities, programs, and services for Indy Parks & Recreation. This role covers aquatic and day camp activities, sporting programs, events, and service delivery across varied environments and weather conditions.

The incumbent must demonstrate independent judgment when policies are unavailable and ensure safety, compliance, and accurate reporting. Strong communication and customer service are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Physical Education, Recreation Administration or related field preferred.
• One year of related work experience may be substituted for each year of formal education.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Ability to plan and organize events and meetings with agendas and timelines.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
• Customer service oriented; knowledge of Word, Excel, Publisher.
• Indiana operator's license required; NYSCA Clinician Certification possible; CPRP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and evaluates programs including aquatic, day camp, recreational, and sports programs.
• Schedules classes and assists in leading classes.
• Follows Indy Parks and Recreation policies and procedures.
• Interacts with community committees and boards as requested by supervisor.
• Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and advising on-site personnel, volunteers, and contractors.
• Supervises safety of all participants in the program.
• Coordinates with managers, risk manager to assess safety and ensure a safe experience for all park patrons.
• Maintains and coordinates program communications in-house and with the community.
• Works with Communications team to market and promote programs and events.
• Uses software platforms to organize, document, track, and monitor work (ActiveNet, InforPS, Microsoft Office, Peoplesoft, NeoGov, WebEx).
• Maintains records for reporting and audit and ensures confidentiality.
