Job summary

The University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, seeks an Outpatient Access Representative II for 40 hours weekly in the Interlakes/SMH Med Oncology area. You will perform patient information processing for ambulatory care, including reception, registration, scheduling, and revenue cycle tasks in the EMR.

You will verify patient identity, collect demographic and financial information, obtain approvals, and ensure accurate billing while delivering courteous, HIPAA-compliant service.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or 1 year related experience in an administrative office or customer service field.
• Completion of Vision Care 1,2,3 courses required.
• Medical terminology experience preferred.
• Demonstrates ability to word process documents and enter data into a database.
• Demonstrates service-oriented mindset and HIPAA awareness.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and initiates a positive ambulatory experience using two identifiers.
• Handles reception, registration and insurance handoff processes.
• Enters patient data into EMR and revenue cycle systems accurately.
• Schedules visits, coordinates testing and referrals, and pre-registers patients for next visits.
• Collects copays and reconciles end-of-day deposits.
• Answers phone calls, manages telephone encounters and routes messages to providers.
• Maintains PHI privacy and ensures waiting area order and cleanliness.
• May assist with provider template changes and support new staff as needed.
• Escorts patients to treatment areas and records vital signs when required.
