Job summary

SMX is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to join our team in support of a Modernized Data Science Platform for a Federal customer. The role focuses on bridging business needs with technical solutions and applying modern AI capabilities to deliver practical outcomes.

You will design AI agents, research Databricks and Palantir capabilities, engineer prompts for LLMs, build chatbots, and train models on production data, all within an agile, cross-functional environment.

Qualifications

U.S. citizenship with active DoD Secret clearance or able to obtain one.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
6 years of related work experience.
Experience training AI models (min. 2 years).
Experience integrating AI capabilities into DevOps pipelines.
Experience developing Agents using OpenAI LLMs.
Experience developing AI chatbots for business needs.
Experience training ML models on production data.
Experience with agile development methodologies.
Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases.
Ability to work cross-functionally and independently.
Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing.

Responsibilities

Design and develop AI agents to accelerate capability delivery for business requirements.
Research AI capabilities in Databricks and Palantir to standardize usage by developers.
Prompt Engineer LLMs to support analysis and coding for the team.
Develop chatbots to support developer and customer interactions.
Train machine learning models on historical and live production data.
