Job summary

SMX is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to join our team supporting a Modernized Data Science Platform for a Federal customer. The role focuses on bridging business needs and technical solutions using modern AI capabilities.

You will design AI agents, train models, and integrate AI into DevOps pipelines while collaborating across teams. A DoD security clearance is required or ability to obtain one.

Qualifications

• Citizenship and DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain) required
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 6 years of related work experience
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on development experience in training AI models
• Experience integrating AI capabilities into Dev/Ops pipelines
• Experience developing agents using OpenAI LLMs
• Experience with AI chatbot development and training ML models on live datasets
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases
• Ability to work cross-functionally and independently
• Proven experience in knowledge sharing and documentation
• Driven, self-directed, mission-focused mindset

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new AI agents to meet business requirements
• Research AI capabilities in Databricks and Palantir to standardize usage
• Prompt engineering of LLMs for analysis and coding
• Develop chatbots to support developers and customers
• Train ML models on historical data for predictive insights and anomaly detection
